The Egyptian Book of the Dead
Going Forth by Day...

I first read the transliteration of the Egyptian Book of the Dead by E. A. Wallis Budge in high school, and have subsequently read several version of the texts.  I became enamored with the beauty of the written hieroglyphics (mdw-ntr) and the complex allegories of the funerary texts.  The Weighing of the Heart ceremony before Ausar (Osiris) in The Hall of Two Truths is my favorite part of the ritual.  The 'negative confession' of a person's life is a powerful exercise, which I had the pleasure of going through during my Scottish Rite degrees.
